Systems and Code Theory
We give an overview of the research work that a part of the Systems and Control group has been developing concerning control systems and code theory.

Calculus of Variations and Optimal Control
In this talk, we present new developments about generalized variational problems of Herglotz type. In particular, we show that optimal control is a convenient tool to extend classical Noether's theorems to higher-order delayed Herglotz problems. We also show some results for variational problems of Herglotz in the context of fractional calculus and Riemannian manifolds.

Mathematical Modeling and Control in Epidemiology
Simple epidemiological models, composed by mutually exclusive compartments, are presented to describe a certain reality. From health concerns to situations related with marketing, informatics or even sociology, several are the fields that are using epidemiological models as a first approach to better understand a situation. The basic reproduction number, as well as optimal control strategies, are exposed, allowing us to extract a great deal of information about possible solutions.
